Workshop materials for the Niwot Ridge Long-Term Ecological Research Site

The Niwot Ridge Long-Term Ecological Research Site has a wealth of ecological/environmental data that is being used by the The International Graduate Summer School on Statistics and Climate Modeling.

There are three sets of GPS 'breadcrumbs' collected on the two trips to the site. crumbs_forerunner.txt, and crumbs_60CSX_1.txt, were collected at the same time, barring the slight differences in when I turned the units on and off. They collect samples 'in their own fashion' ... the sample rates are NOT the same. None of the GPS units were calibrated to a known elevation, so the elevations were coming from the satellite positioning only. crumbs_60CSX_2.txt was collected on the Sunday morning trip during the summer school.

The R function NiwotLTER.R will give you a decent place to start to read the available data. There is a lot of functionality and bulletproofing 'left as an exercise to the interested reader' ... The Niwot Ridge LTER site has a LOT of metadata available for those willing to browse around. If you want to zoom right to the meteorological data, here is the link, but I've gotta tell ya ... you'll be missing a lot of useful background information.
