Homogeneity, isotropy, and log-normality: Some thoughts on Kolmogorov's turbulence theory

Turbulence is one of the greatest challenges in physics, starting by Leonardo five centuries ago. The Navier-Stokes equation, which is deterministic, probably contains all of turbulence, while the phenomena are almost as varied as in the realm of life.

One of the major problems of turbulence is to characterize the statistical properties of the flows, according to K41 theory. This talk will present some thoughts on Kolmogorov 41 theory, such as homogeneity, isotropy, and log-normality, through space-time random fields that may be used to describe turbulent flows.
