Research Interests Assessment of uncertainty in climate change projections. I'm a research scientist at Climate Central, a new non-profit organization dedicated to the synthesis and communication of the science and solutions of climate change. My research focuses on the analysis and statistical characterization of climate change projections and their uncertainties, as they can be derived from Global and Regional Climate Models. I have looked in particular at regional signals of temperature and precipitation, and I also focused on a set of indices meant to depict changes in extreme events, relevant to impacts research, like annual number of frost days, heat waves and many others. Simple statistical methods can go a long way, but more sophisticated modeling is needed at times. Hierarchical Bayesian models, for example, have proved to be very appropriate in this area. Since September 2009 I am adjunct professor in the Statistics Department at UBC, in Vancouver, British Columbia, where I teach.
